David Koehn is the founder and president of Koehn Outdoor, formerly DM Koehn Landscaping, Inc. David learned the construction and green industry at an early age by working with his father Douglas W. Koehn at his Class A Contracting business in Franklin, VA. After receiving a 2-year degree in industrial technology from a local community college, David moved from Franklin, VA to Jacksonville, FL in 2001 and started DM Koehn Landscaping in 2004, when he was only 24 years old. 

In its humble beginnings, David’s business was a one-man residential mowing operation. With the company’s success, David added more employees, equipment, and trucks and began focusing growing the business commercially. Early in life, David was taught that, “when you do something, you do it right and with integrity” —  a life lesson that has become one of the Koehn Outdoor’s core values.

Over time, Koehn Outdoor has developed into a market-leading commercial landscape management company with over 90 full-time employees. The company also has a full-service outdoor construction division that has developed award-winning hardscapes and beautiful amenity centers throughout the state of Florida.

Having adapted a culture of continuous learning, training, and strategic planning, David and the Koehn Outdoor leadership team hold many green industry certifications and licenses and are involved in many industry professional associations. In 2018, Koehn Outdoor engaged with green industry specialist Envisor Consulting. The Envisor team holds leadership accountable for achieving goals and maintaining a level of customer service that is unmatched in Northeast Florida — which coincides with David’s personal promise to his clients that Koehn Outdoor provides the most customer value for the most competitive price possible.

When not working, David enjoys spending time with his wife Andrea and his two younger children Leah and Lucas. The family enjoys traveling, going to the beach, church services at Eleven 22 church, and being involved in the local Jacksonville Beach community events.

Will obtained the core values of HONESTY, INTEGRITY, and LEADERSHIP from the U.S. Army, where he oversaw day to day operations as a logistics specialist and was responsible for maintaining the training records and transitioning processes of soldiers. He gives credit to the military for strengthening skills that help him work with people from different regions and backgrounds, as well as giving him the ability to adapt and overcome any situation.

In his ten-year tenure at Koehn Outdoor, Will has grown from crew member to upper management thanks to his work ethic and willingness to learn. He currently oversees our Pest Control division and holds our Certified Operators License. He is responsible for ensuring that our horticulture program is following Florida statutes 482, is proficient in weed and insect identification, performs all chemical training for the company, and maintains all chemical records.

Will also attends yearly training such as BPM, arbor care, and core classes and is passionate about continuing his education, having completed Master Account Management training program through the Envisor consulting group. He possesses vast knowledge in the process of onboarding new customers, recommending tactical strategic plans on maximizing time with service maps and creative planning, and learning ways to create customer value. Will’s focus is on creating a clear line of communication with the customer, being proactive, performing monthly site walks to ensure quality, and continually training our teams to help provide a quality service. More than anything, Will’s skills help maintain positive relationships with Koehn Outdoor customers.

Zachary Meier

Zachary graduated from the University of South Dakota in 2014, where he received his B.S. in Economics with a minor in Business Administration. His career as a full-time employee started as a crew member working to maintain landscapes, adjust irrigation systems, and tend to the demands of landscape design projects. 

Zachary was quickly promoted to the position of Hardscape Supervisor, where he took a management-level role and used his experience within the environment of landscape and design — as well as his collegiate economic and business background — to assign and supervise workers and oversee the quality of work for projects. 

Zachary immersed himself in maintenance, renovation, design, installation, irrigation, and tree care on all his properties. During this time, he also gained additional experience leading the company’s safety protocols and procedures by planning and executing weekly safety briefings for Koehn Outdoor employees. Zachary’s management style, superb attention to detail, and rare work ethic paved the way to his promotion as Field Manager, where he continues to apply his skills and oversight to multiple projects, his team, and the future success of Koehn Outdoor.

Nick completed his degree in Business Management and Behavioral Analysis, graduating with Magna Cum Laude Honors from the University of North Texas. Before Nick came into the landscaping industry, he served 6 years in the U.S. Navy, where his leadership and high standard of excellence shone through in his professional career.

Nick has been in irrigation for over 8 years, constantly expanding his experience and knowledge of the field’s ever-shifting and advancing technologies. At Koehn Outdoor, Nick overlooks all irrigation maintenance accounts and has played a vital role in implementing new technology to keep Koehn Outdoor at the forefront for innovation and efficiency. Nick often advises and consults with our New Construction Irrigation Install Managers as well as our Quality Control Program Managers, and his water management skills have helped save our clients thousands of dollars.

In the 12 years that Kyle has been in the Commercial Landscape Management industry, he has gained insurmountable knowledge and holds several Industry Certifications as well as Best Management Practice Certification. Kyle has completed the Master Account manager training program through the Envisor consulting group training programs.

For Koehn Outdoor, Kyle currently supervises landscape maintenance operations throughout the Jacksonville market and has been a key member of the team. Over his time with the company, Kyle has been involved in maintenance, renovation, design, installation, irrigation management, and tree care on all his properties.

Kyle’s primary focuses are on customer service, job quality, and the continual education of his team in the ever-changing landscape industry. Being proactive, he schedules work effectively, promotes good communication, and monitors crew productivity while keeping the property, visitors, and Koehn Outdoor team members safe on site. He’s also responsible for developing weekly schedules for the maintenance teams and all support services, including the irrigation, horticultural, and arbor care required to keep a property looking its best.
